Really hope prices stay even until I can afford one. In a perfect world, I’d have a red 911 SC with the whale tail and a beige interior.

I just wondering why they would paint the Targa bar.
Also, the whale tail seems out of place.
Nevertheless, 10/10.

My dream car when I was younger, was a Porsche 911 Targa, 1976 in green. No wing. Pure magic.

Had that open in another tab, haha. Really like the green... Not a huge fan of the cookie cutter wheels though.

I would never buy a 911 2.7L online without a massive engine check before... Most poeple will keep on blindly telling you how reliable Porsche are, and well, it is mostly true, but not with this one... To learn more about what I mean:

So basically, you’re better off with a 911SC if you can...

I’ve hear about that a bit before. Cylinder walls were too thin IIRC, but I’ll give that link a read.
The 911SC is harder to find at a low price point though.

Yeah but i think the 911SC is a better buy to enjoy... It’s got a torquier engine and LSDs can be found very easily and for a decent for it. It went a lot further than too thin cylinder walls... This engine was a complete failure really :)
If you want this car, get it, then get a 911SC engine, swap it, and bring it back to original specs when you sell the car haha

No, I totally agree with you on that. My dream car has been a 911 ever since I was a child, it’s just a matter of what I can/can’t afford. :P
I do prefer to not have catastrophic engine failure either way though, haha.

I approve. Go ahead and buy it.
Of course it has some shortfalls but that’s why you can pick it up for less than $30k.
It’s occasionally going to be a maintenance problem and a regular money pit, but you’ll have a blast in between.

I MAY get a 911SC in the next upcomming months... It’s being restored right now. It will be “as cheap of a restoration as possible”. By that I mean that it won’t get a repaint, most likely won’t get a complete interior, but it will be mechanically perfect with a LSD installed :)
Here is how it looks right now... the whole body had to be changed and swapped due to the original one being crashed into. Chassis is perfect though and it only has 45000 miles on the clock with the original engine.
Here is how it looked a few months ago:

Pre-996 Porsche Carreras are in a bubble right now. I look back at some of the cars I could have bought and tried to convince my friends to buy and how much they’ve appreciated, and I kick myself - especially since I ended up owning a Mazda RX-8 expecting it to be more reliable.
That said, they aren’t making more of them, and just because prices are in a bubble doesn’t mean the bubble will pop. After all - the bubble exists because they are sought after cars.
If you are serious, find an independent Porsche mechanic with a good reputation and make sure to have an exhaustive pre-purchase inspection done on it. It may suck to spend $300 having a shop inspect a car that you may not buy, but it also might be the best $300 you ever spend.
